QuelleMcKenzie police have charged two Carroll County parents with raping their child.
Jonathan Wayne Goodrum, 19, and Kristina Louise Sawyer, 18, are charged with raping their 1-day-old girl before she was taken home from McKenzie Regional Hospital about six weeks ago, said McKenzie Police Lt. Tim Nanney.
While both parents have been charged, Sawyer's bond was reduced because police still are investigating what role, if any, she played in the possible rape of her child, Nanney said. She was charged because "I could not exclude her from being part of it, so I had to charge her also," he said. "I could not exclude her at the time from being a participant of it."
Nanney said hospital officials notified police of the possible rape after noticing injuries to the child's rear during a routine examination given before newborns are released from the hospital. "There were some skin tears in and around the private (back) area of the child," he said.
The investigation led to the child's parents, Nanney said, and there was no indication that any hospital worker was involved in the incident.
"Based on the investigation, we ruled out everyone but the mom and the dad," Nanney said.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services has placed the baby girl with a relative, Nanney said. The parents are not allowed to have contact with the girl, who is now about 6 weeks old.
The couple was engaged to be married and was living at the Value Inn Motel on Highland Drive in McKenzie at the time of the incident. Sawyer is a McKenzie native, and Goodrum also has relatives living in Carroll County, though Nanney did not know his hometown.
Goodrum is being held in the Carroll County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. Sawyer's bond was reduced to $5,000 after her arraignment. Nanney did not know if she still was being held or had been released.
While no trial date has been set, Nanney said one probably would not occur before September.
EIN TAG ALT. Noch nicht mal aus dem Krankenhaus draußen. Willkommen in der Welt kleine!
Achja, wem das noch nicht reicht zum komplimentieren der totalen Übelkeit.

QuelleKANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 2-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being beaten senseless, sexually assaulted and kicked in the head, police said Tuesday. The girl's stepfather was charged in the case. Police said he later confessed to the crimes and admitted having an anger control problem. At first, hospital officials were told the toddler fell out of a chair, but the girl's injuries did not fit with that story.KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that Paul Turner, 28, married the child's mother last month. Turner told investigators that while his wife was at work Monday, he became angry with the toddler for pouring water on a TV
Court documents claim Turner said he grabbed the girl and shook her violently. Then, he said he swung the victim off the ground by her ankles and dropped her on the floor. He also said he "smacked the living crap out of her."He told police that while changing her soiled diaper, a part of his body "made a mistake" and he had intercourse with the toddler. Turner said he ended the assault by kicking the child in the head, because she wouldn't wake up.Later, he brought the severely injured girl to a nearby Wal-Mart to meet his wife. When the 18-year-old mother saw her daughter's condition, she called 911. The hospital called police."The blunt force trauma to her head is massive, and that's indicative of the anger he told us about that he felt," Sgt. Michael Hicks said. "All child abuses are severe; this one just happens to be more severe because of the sexual abuse that's incorporated with the severe head trauma."
"I just can't believe it. I just can't believe it," said Stephanie Harris, who lives near the family in the Greens Apartments at Bannister Road and Newton Avenue. Harris and her 4-year-old daughter live downstairs. "I never heard any noise going on up there, so I really don't know what's really going on. I'm assuming that she trusted the person -- her husband, stepdad -- it's just sad," Harris said."She's alive right now, but her situation is pretty bad," Hicks said.Jackson County Prosecutor Mike Sanders said he was shocked by the case."While he was at police headquarters, he gave his statement with what we're alleging is some of the most horrific abuse this office has seen in decades," Sanders said.Turner was charged with four counts of first-degree assault, six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of child abuse, one count of forcible sodomy and one count of statutory sodomy.Prosecutors asked that Turner be held without bond.Breit reported that the couple has another child who is currently in protective custody.
